Vaisakhi Cup Round UpMonday, 10 May 2010 10:56 On Saturday the Harborough Juniors travelled to Leicester to take part in the annual Vaisakhi Cup. After an enjoyable day with high quality hockey, Market Harborough secured 4th place with outstanding keeping by Andrew Hodgson who also won player of the tournament! After a shaky start against the Barford Tigers with a score of 3-1, Harborough managed to bounce back with the following two games being 1-1. They then played the tournament winners; Leicester Grammar and despite losing 2-1, played exceedingly well. Harborough’s brilliant opening goal was scored by Ali Williams due to great passing play by Megan Dreyer, with captain Ferne Sanders scoring an excellent goal in the second game. In his first hockey tournament, Tom Bailey played fantastic and scored after several close attempts in previous games. The best moment for Harborough today was Will Feavyour’s exceptional goal in the top of the net after an impressive aerial from Ryan Dreyer in defence. Bethany Bailey, Ferne Sanders, Will Feavyour and Megan Dreyer demonstrated good movement in midfield with strong passing between players with Jade Feavyour and Matt Williams showing exceptional defending skills throughout the tournament. A special thanks to coaches Rob Smith and Ryan Dreyer as well as Jan Sanders who supported and helped the team achieve this standard of hockey.
