Leicester Hospitals A vs Market Harborough A Match Report 20th March 2010

Following a lacklustre performance the week before, which had seen Harborough A slip further behind in the title race, the team travelled to a damp Groby on Saturday for the challenge of third-placed Leicester Hospitals.

Injury and unavailability meant returning faces in the form of Ross Gillanders, Neil James and Kerry Moralee and they were to play a key part in a convincing team victory. Paul Taylor also returned to give the defence a solidity that had sadly been lacking the week before. Goalless mid-way through the first half, the introduction of Gillanders proved to be the turning point with good work from Sophie Short leading to him teeing up Captain Rob Smith for the first goal. Shortly after Gillanders took on the responsibility himself, weaving his way through the Hospitals midfield and defence before a one-two with Tim Chapman gave him the chance to coolly slot the ball past the onrushing keeper. His second and Harborough’s third minutes later owed less to guile and more to power as he smashed the ball from the top of the circle past the helpless Hospitals stopper. Three-nil at half time and Harborough continued their domination into the second half scoring twice more, with Gillanders getting a well deserved hat-trick after some good interplay between Jade Feayvour and Kerry Moralee. Neil James added his name to the scoresheet either side of a consolation from Hospitals to make it 5-1 to Harborough. Next week, the County Senior Cup semi-finals against the same opposition with Harborough looking to make their way through to the final.
